Here we go!

Hey everyone! Jamey here.

So this is my first attempt at blogging, and I gotta say, I'm more excited about leaving on the trip than writing about it. It's Friday, June 15 and we're down to three days before we leave. My mother and grandmother are driving us to D.C. on Monday, and we fly out of Dulles airport on Tuesday.

This week has been our first one out of school, and the only one that we have here before we head out. It's been full of things to do, places to go, and people to see. We've been busy, and during this whirlwind of excitement, I've come to see even more clearly how patient my wonderful wife is when it comes to dealing with me. This is not easy because if you give me a full week to get a certain amount of things done, I would use every second available and still not get them all finished. I wouldn't have a prayer of getting myself together to make a trip like this without forgetting half of what I needed and leaving my place in a shambles. Thankfully, she is a highly motivated planner with a lot of patience.

We had a "staff planning meeting" a couple of weeks ago. Both of us sat down
to make a list of what needed to be done before leaving and what we might want to get done. She made her goals. Mine? Not so much, but the good news is...that doesn't really bother me! The important thing to me is that I make sure she's not alone in doing the things for the house that are kind of on both our lists. So, I've tried to help with mopping, blogging, cooking, cleaning, packing, etc.. That sounds noble, BUT I have a tendency to work at my own pace. In my mind/world, it works. In my marriage, well, she still loves me. :) And I'm working on it.

As far as being ready, we'll make our flights, and thanks to Meredith, we'll probably have everything we need. We'll update again and let you know.

So good to hear from you! Sounds like you will have an interesting summer, so much better than lolling about at home. God bless you on your journey. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
